Wood Serving Cart
If you are in the market for a wood serving cart, you may have
some work cut out for you. That is because the variety of sizes, styles, woods, designs and functions are seemingly
endless. There are wood carts for your kitchen which can serve the purpose of providing simple extra storage, be
mobile or stationary, or act as a service island, complete with butcher block tops, cabinets and other features.
These can be used daily for food preparation or rolled into the dining room for serving guests at a dinner party.
You may find a very nice wood tea server cart or a wood wine cart that is smaller and useful for entertaining and
simply moved against the wall, with the items needed for serving, stored until your next event.
Let's first consider some options for the kitchen. Catskill
Craftsmen was started in 1948 in New York State, USA and will illustrate the flexibility that is available with
serving carts. If you have a desire, and the space, for a larger unit, look to the "Super Island PLUS with Drop
Leaf." This unit is made of hardwoods and sits 44 in. wide and stands 34.5 in. high. With the drop leaf (optional),
extended it will add 10 in. to the 28 in. deep wooden work space. There is a center storage area with 2 doors that
has an adjustable shelf. There are two smaller compartments on either side and a large drawer on top that is cut to
look like two drawers. There is a hand towel rack on one end and a knife rack on the other. Two of the four casters
will lock to stabilize the unit. The hardwood top is proven to be safer for food handling than metal or plastic as
bacteria cannot survive as readily on wood.
Another serving cart they offer is the "Heart-of-the-Kitchen
Island." This is a smaller cart with an open shelf that is accessible from all sides, a double-door cabinet, a
large drawer, and shelves on both ends that can serve as spice racks or to keep other items you need close at hand.
The overall size is a comfortable 36 inches wide, stands 34 1/2 inches and is 18 inches deep. With the optional 11
inch drop leaf, the table space will be 34 inches wide by 27.5 inches. This cart can be maneuvered with either
handle on each side and those can be used as towel racks when parked.
Another wood cart that would serve a multi-purpose function is
Winsome Woods', "Entertainer Kitchen Cart." This is a cart with a unique design and done in beech wood with an
espresso finish. The three shelves are curved with one over the cabinet door and above two wooden wine racks. The
other two extend from the cabinet and it also has a drawer. The handle will serve as a towel rack and allow for
easy guiding with the four wheels. Metal rails will assure the items will have less likelihood of tipping or
spilling.
There is a wood serving cart waiting for you to discover it. It
will fit in your decor and meet your price range. Whether it is broad with loads of storage space, serves as a
kitchen island, or is small enough to wheel to where you need it, there are many choices. You can even find one
that is round or oval with open shelves that will certainly stand out and be appreciated by your guests at your
next gathering of friends or family.
